Yes. Maryland’s insurance consumer guidance says you can choose the auto body shop that repairs your vehicle. Choosing the shop and determining what the insurer will pay are separate parts of the claim.
A recommendation does not decide for you
Your insurer may suggest a repair facility. You can ask about that option and also tell the adjuster which shop you prefer. The Maryland Insurance Administration’s auto insurance guide explains the right to select a shop.
The guide also notes that payment is based on the insurer’s determination of the necessary covered repairs. Choosing a shop does not mean every charge is automatically approved.
Ask about the payment details
Before authorizing the repair, ask your adjuster about the deductible, covered parts and any rental coverage. Read the estimate and ask the shop about charges that might be your responsibility.
Keep the claim number and adjuster’s contact details handy. If the shop finds more damage, ask how the added work will be documented and submitted. Do not assume a revised estimate has already been accepted just because it has been written.
Keep the repair and claim conversations connected
Give the shop a copy of the insurance estimate if you have one. Ask the adjuster how the shop should contact them and whether another inspection is required. Keep copies of authorizations and any changes you agree to.
At Seabrook Auto Body, call us about your claim or bring the paperwork with the car. For a coverage dispute, ask the insurer for its explanation and contact the Maryland Insurance Administration if you need help understanding your options.
